Mandela currently has two positions open:

OPERATIONS  MANAGER
Mandela Marketplace is a non-profit organization that works in partnership with local residents, family farmers, and community-based businesses to improve health, create wealth, and build assets through cooperative food enterprises in low income communities.

The Operations Manager of Mandela Marketplace will be primarily responsible for assisting the Executive Director in the management and oversight Mandela Marketplace’s programs, staff, and fund development. The Operations Manager of Mandela Marketplace reports directly to the Executive Director, and is a member of the Management Team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Programs:

  1. Work under the direction of Mandela MarketPlace's Board of Directors and the Executive director to ensure that programs are in line with long-range strategic planning
  2. Publicize the activities of the organization, its programs and goals.
  3. Assist in establishing sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations.
  4. Network and represent the programs and point of view of the organization and it's directors to agencies, organizations, and the general public.

Staff Management:

  1. Be responsible for the recruitment, employment, and release of all personnel, both paid staff and volunteers as advised by the Executive Director and the Board of Advisors.
  2. Ensure that job descriptions are developed, and that regular performance evaluations are held.
  3. Develop human resources policies, and ensure that staff management and structures are in-line with those policies.
  4. Oversee the daily operations of the organization, manage staff, oversee personnel schedules across programs, and ensure that sound management systems are in place.
  5. Encourage staff and volunteer development and education
  6. Maintain a climate which attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse staff of top quality people.

 Development:

  1. Grant writing support
  2. Develop goals, scope staffing needs, and craft budgets in-line with program needs and grant guidelines
  3. Maintain data and manage grant reporting
  4. Map out timelines and monitor grants goals and deadlines
  5. Manage grant budgets and ensure alignment with program and organizational goals

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Staff management and Human Resources experience, preferably in the non-profit industry
  • Business experience, and/or advanced business education
  • Experience in grant and budget management and development
  • Excels at developing, managing, and reviewing scopes of work
  • Proficient writer, grant writing experience preferred
  • Professionalism
  • Bilingual preferred

Produce Delivery Driver

The position of Produce Driver is a key support position in developing and establishing a locally owned produce distribution center, building a reputation for high quality, locally sourced foods, excellent customer service and building a healthy food network that will provide future business opportunities to inner city residents and increased income to family farmers.

  • Drive van for pick-ups and orders for Mandela MarketPlace
  • Maintain quality control when buying from local farmers
  • Checks maintenance of van
  • Washes and cleans van for sanitation purposes
  • Assists in warehouse duties when needed for the warehouse manager
  • Gives weekly feedback to staff on produce availability and quality for purchases
  • Maintenance of money and budget for buying from farmers.
  • Collection of invoices and creating invoices with clients, including farmers and business distributions
  • Delivery for customers
  • Self /time management for pick-ups and deliveries
  • Reports daily with Warehouse Manager
  • Reports weekly with Mandela MarketPlace Director and business consultant on duties tasks and improvements
  • Must fill out a daily spending report of money used for the day.

Qualifications

  • Bilingual
  • Clean driving record
  • Comfortable working directly with diverse farmers and community members
  • Outgoing personality, sensitive to the needs of the farmers
  • Represent organization in a professional manner
  • Knowledge about fresh produce and sustainable farming practices a plus
